About Marie
Looking for the expertise of a professional writer whose experience
runs the gamut from newspaper correspondent to published nonfiction
author?
Marie Bartlett has more than 25 years experience in the rough-and-tumble
world of freelance writing. For more than a decade she made a living
as a fulltime writer producing articles for newspapers and magazines,
serving as a public relations consultant and as a contractor for
corporate communications.
Today, she is the author of four nonfiction
books, and holds a master’s degree in adult education.
Once a writer, always a writer, says Marie.
“I think creative types MUST write in
spite of the odds, the inevitable rejections, and all the obstacles
to success. We write in spite of ourselves for it is inherent in
our nature. What I have to share with writers are the things I
wish someone had shared with me when I began my writing career – all
those “tips and tricks” of the trade that would have made my career
path easier."

- Freelance writing services on a project-by-project basis
- Nonfiction one or two-day writing workshops for large or small

Personal History:
Born in Melbourne, Australia but reared in Virginia
and western North Carolina, Marie spent a decade in state government
as a magistrate before returning to school for her master’s
degree. Following the death of her youngest son, Shane, in 1998,
she found herself journaling as a way to deal with her grief. The
result was Gifts from Shane, a memoir of the lessons learned from
a remarkable human being.
Marie has two surviving sons, Brian, and Brett, and lives in Hendersonville,
North Carolina.
