How to Write a Query
Most important, know what a query is and does. It’s a sales pitch for your story idea, a mini-version of your feature with certain crucial elements, including your slant, your writing style, and a promise of what is to come. Primarily, it is the selling of your concept – not your story. Almost every major publication requires a query, either by e-mail or snail mail, in order to decide if they want to see your full-length feature. That can work in your favor.
